Your First Reformer Pilates Class at Avena: What to Expect

Move Better with Avena Reformer

Starting something new can feel intimidating, but your first Reformer Pilates class at Avena Leisure is designed to do the opposite. It’s structured, coached, and built to help you move better from day one.

If you’ve seen the reformer machine and thought, “That looks complicated”, you’re not alone. But once you step onto the carriage, everything starts to make sense.

This guide will walk you through exactly what to expect, so you can show up confident and ready.

Find Your Flow

Walking into your first class, the reformer might look unfamiliar, but that’s where we come in.

Every session is fully coached. You’ll be guided through:

  • How the machine works
  • Where to position your body
  • How to move safely and effectively

You’re not expected to know anything before you start. The focus is on learning the basics, building awareness, and gradually finding your rhythm.

Within one session, most people go from unsure… to fully locked in.

Feel in Control

One of the biggest differences with Reformer Pilates at Avena Leisure is the level of coaching.

This isn’t a follow-along class where you’re left guessing.

Our coaches:

  • Correct your positioning
  • Help you engage the right muscles
  • Adjust exercises to your level

That means you’re not just doing the workout, you’re doing it properly.

This is where real progress happens, through control, not chaos.

Build Real Strength

Reformer Pilates isn’t easy and that’s the point.

It’s slow, controlled, and targeted. Instead of rushing through reps, you’ll:

  • Build deep core strength
  • Improve stability and balance
  • Strengthen muscles that traditional training often misses

The resistance from the reformer challenges your body in a completely different way, forcing you to stay engaged throughout every movement.

This is strength that carries over into everything else you do, whether that’s lifting, running, or just moving pain-free day to day.

What You Need to Know Before You Come

To get the most from your first class:

Arrive early
Give yourself 5–10 minutes to get set up and meet your coach.

Wear fitted, comfortable clothing
You want to be able to move freely and allow coaches to see your positioning.

Grip socks (if you have them)
These help with stability on the carriage.

Be ready to learn
You don’t need to be fit or flexible, just open to trying something new.

Are You Ready to Transform?

Your first Reformer class is just the start.

You’ll leave feeling:

  • More aware of your body
  • More in control of your movement
  • Challenged in a way you probably haven’t experienced before

And the best part?

All classes are free to Avena Leisure members.
